Nuba wrestling is a traditional grappling sport practiced by the Nuba peoples of the Nuba Mountains in southern Sudan. It is both a sport and a cultural ritual tied to identity, harvest festivals, community pride, and coming-of-age traditions. Some observers describe it as “the identity of the Nuba”. Historically, wrestlers competed nearly naked and covered themselves with ash or oils, though modern competitors usually wear shorts and shirts.
The Krongo Nuba or Korongo are a sub-ethnic group of the Nuba peoples in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan state, in southern Sudan. They number several 64,500 persons. This minority is divided in terms of religion.
